Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an experienced technician to perform routine maintenance and complex repairs on controls systems for large commercial HVAC boilers. This role emphasizes troubleshooting, calibration, and safety compliance while supporting service sales for retrofits and upgrades.

The candidate will work with gas- and electric-fired boilers, read blueprints, and follow EPA/SCAQMD safety guidelines. A strong focus on documentation and teamwork is required.

Qualifications

• Experience repairing large commercial boiler systems.

• Knowledge of EPA/SCAQMD safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair boiler systems and related mechanical equipment.
• Troubleshoot control systems, electrical circuitry, deaerators, gas/fuel lines, pumps, and related equipment.
• Use combustion analyzers, meters, and test equipment to assess systems.
• Perform calibrations and checkouts of gauges, transmitters, meters, and VFDs.
• Follow preventive maintenance schedules and complete disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly tasks.
• Monitor systems and conduct safety inspections per EPA and SCAQMD rules.
• Document preventive maintenance and repairs accurately.
• Keep records and complete paperwork promptly.
• Assist Service Sales with scope development and retrofit support.
• Assist with estimating time and material costs.
• Ensure all work complies with Southland safety rules.
• Perform additional assignments as needed.

Job description

Position Summary

Perform routine maintenance and complex repairs on controls systems for large, commercial HVAC boilers (gas-fired hot water boilers, gas-fired steam boilers, and electric-fired steam boilers), steam boiler experience is a plus not mandatory. and on related equipment. Understand equipment and process flow and effectively troubleshoot problems to ensure everything is working properly, efficiently, and affordably. Southland Industries is a signatory contractor of the Local Union 250.

Position Details

• Inspect, maintain, and repair all components of boiler systems and associated
• mechanical equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair control systems, electrical circuitry, deaerators, gasand fuel pressure lines, feedwater pumps, compressors, motors, heatexchangers, and other related equipment.
• Effectively use combustion analyzer, electric multi-meter, and other related test equipment to test and analyze systems and equipment.
• Perform calibrations and checkouts to basic instrumentation such as gauges,pressure transmitters, flow meters, pneumatic and electronic drive units,variable speed motor controls (VFDs), etc.
• Follow preventative maintenance schedules and perform routinemaintenance and repair, including disassembly, cleaning, and re-assembly functions, fire tube maintenance, water side maintenance, boiler controlsdisassembly and the repair and rebuilding of controls.
• Monitor systems and perform safety inspections to ensure compliance withestablished safety requirements of EPA and SCAQMD regulations.
• Document preventive maintenance and repair as required.
• Maintain accurate records of completed work and materials used. Complete all necessary paperwork in a timely and professional manner.
• Assist Service Sales with customer scope development, technical analysis and support for retrofits, control upgrades and enhancements to existingequipment.
• Assist with estimating time and material costs.
• Perform all work within the confines of Southland’s safety rules and regulations.
• Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years’ experience in the repair, maintenance, and operation of large commercial boilers and steam generation systems and or technical schooling
• Valid California Driver License to meet Southland Driving policy
• OSHA-10 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
• Basic working knowledge of computers, micro-processor technology with computer-based building control systems and computerized preventative maintenance programs
• Ability to read blueprints, layout plans and wiring diagrams.
• Ability to effectively manage time and complete delegated work within specified timeframe.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
• Ability to successfully pass pre-employment drug-screen and physical tests.
• Must be available to be on stand-by or work during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Employment is contingent upon satisfying all jobsite-specific access requirements, with no outstanding restrictions from any jobsite or from working with any of Southland’s partnering General Contractors, Owners, Customers, etc.

Pay

Final pay is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. For California this ranges from $28.00/hour - $65.00/hour plus annual incentive, benefits, and retirement program as outlined above.
