Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a skilled technician to perform routine maintenance and complex repairs on controls systems for large commercial HVAC boilers, including gas-fired hot water and steam boilers, and related equipment.

You will inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate instrumentation, document preventive maintenance, and support safety and EPA compliance while working on-site in Haltom City, TX.

Qualifications

  • 4-year apprenticeship program or technical schooling
  • 5+ years’ experience in repair, maintenance and operation of large commercial boilers
  • Valid Texas Driver License and clean driving record
  • OSHA-10 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six months from date of hire)
  • Basic working knowledge of computers and building control systems
  • Ability to read blueprints/layouts and wiring diagrams
  • Time management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication with diverse audiences
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical tests
  • Availability for stand-by, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Employment contingent on site access requirements and partnering contractors

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair boiler system components and related mechanical equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair control systems and electrical circuits
  • Use test equipment (combustion analyzer, multi-meter) to test and analyze systems
  • Calibrate and checkout instrumentation (gauges, pressure transmitters, flow meters)
  • Follow preventative maintenance schedules and perform disassembly, cleaning and reassembly
  • Monitor systems for safety compliance and EPA regulations
  • Document preventive maintenance and repair activities
  • Maintain records and complete paperwork promptly
  • Assist service sales with scope development, cost estimation and retrofit support
  • Adhere to Southland’s safety rules and procedures
  • Other assignments as needed

Job description

Perform routine maintenance and complex repairs on controls systems for large, commercial HVAC boilers (gas-fired hot water boilers, gas-fired steam boilers, and electric-fired steam boilers) and on related equipment. Understand equipment and process flow and effectively troubleshoot problems to ensure everything is working properly, efficiently, and affordably.

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair all components of boiler systems and associated
  • mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair control systems, electrical circuitry, deaerators, gasand fuel pressure lines, feedwater pumps, compressors, motors, heatexchangers, and other related equipment.
  • Effectively use combustion analyzer, electric multi-meter, and other related test equipment to test and analyze systems and equipment.
  • Perform calibrations and checkouts to basic instrumentation such as gauges,pressure transmitters, flow meters, pneumatic and electronic drive units,variable speed motor controls (VFDs), etc.
  • Follow preventative maintenance schedules and perform routinemaintenance and repair, including disassembly, cleaning, and re-assembly functions, fire tube maintenance, water side maintenance, boiler controlsdisassembly and the repair and rebuilding of controls.
  • Monitor systems and perform safety inspections to ensure compliance withestablished safety requirements and EPA regulations.
  • Document preventive maintenance and repair as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work and materials used. Complete all necessary paperwork in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist Service Sales with customer scope development, technical analysis and support for retrofits, control upgrades and enhancements to existingequipment.
  • Assist with estimating time and material costs.
  • Perform all work within the confines of Southland’s safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a 4-year apprenticeship program or technical schooling
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the repair, maintenance, and operation of large commercial boilers and steam generation systems
  • Valid Texas Driver License and clean driving record
  • OSHA-10 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
  • Basic working knowledge of computers, micro-processor technology with computer-based building control systems and computerized preventative maintenance programs
  • Ability to read blueprints, layout plans and wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and complete delegated work within specified timeframe.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to successfully pass pre-employment drug-screen and physical tests.
  • Must be available to be on stand-by or work during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Employment is contingent upon satisfying all jobsite-specific access requirements, with no outstanding restrictions from any jobsite or from working with any of Southland’s partnering General Contractors, Owners, Customers, etc.
