Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks a Utility Plant Operator 2 at the South Mountain Restoration Center to maintain boilers and related plant equipment supporting steam needs. You will manage boilers, pumps, compressors, and chemical controls, overseeing a sole shift and ensuring steady performance.

The role involves testing water chemistry, documenting conditions, and performing repairs or installations as needed.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) or
• One year of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment;
• An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six months of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate boilers to meet steam demands following manufacturer instructions
• Operate feed water pumps, fans, air compressors, condensate return pumps, fuel oil pumps, water softeners, and chemical feed systems
• Oversee sole shift operations and regulate plant components for steady performance
• Test boiler and water conditions for softness, alkalinity, sulfite, phosphate, and solids, adding chemicals as needed
• Document plant conditions every two hours and maintain production and usage logs
• Perform repairs, install equipment, complete maintenance assignments, and operate the emergency generator when required
