Job Overview

This position involves physical plant operations, preventative maintenance, on-call services, on a seven-day-a-week shift cycle, to ensure that patient comfort and safety are maintained.

Location:

800 Washington Street, Boston (Nutrition Center Building)

Hours:

Full-time – 40 hours, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts required

Minimum Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Second class fireman license or higher.
  3. Four (4) years of technical experience with electromechanical equipment and systems.
  4. Three (3) years of experience in operations, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems similar to those used in facilities.
  5. Previous supervisory experience.
Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not exhaustive. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  1. Read, record, and inspect heating, plumbing, refrigeration, HVAC systems including high-pressure steam boilers, chillers, compressors, pumps, motors, electric and pneumatic controls, water storage tanks, drains, etc., regularly.
  2. Perform preventative maintenance on systems and equipment such as high-pressure steam boilers, air conditioning units, ice machines, compressors, pumps, motors, fans, emergency lights, generators, etc.
  3. Respond to emergency calls such as loss of power, steam, water, heat, ice, and snow by operating all appropriate emergency equipment, including emergency generators, transfer switches, boilers, and water systems.
  4. Diagnose and resolve physical plant issues like loss of heat, hot water, power outages, noise, overheating, broken belts, jammed controls, etc.
  5. Notify authorized personnel of impending problems or major equipment failures requiring specialized repair.
  6. Operate all equipment according to established procedures and criteria.
  7. Supervise and direct the work of one or more Boiler Plant Operators; provide training as required.
  8. Enter operating data into logs and logbooks; prepare deficiency lists and reports as needed.
