Job summary

Darling Ingredients is seeking a Boiler Operator to oversee boiler operations and related processes. You will monitor feed water, boiler water, water treatment, and perform daily chemical additions, while maintaining strict safety standards.

The role involves starting boilers, monitoring oil temperatures, and performing routine maintenance like greasing. Experience with water tube boilers and combustion principles is valuable; evening or night shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1-2 years prior experience in boiler operation and/or rendering facility.
• Knowledge of water tube boilers, principles of combustion, water composition, and steam generation.
• Basic math skills; performs various calculations including heating and fuel consumption rate.
• Good oral and written skills.
• Ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Starts boiler fire; may operate water tube boiler, coal, gas, or wood-fired boilers.
• Checks reverse osmosis unit.
• Monitors feed water, boiler water, water softener, and water treatment unit.
• Add chemicals on a daily basis.
• Monitors oil temperature in turbine bearings; measures oil in underground storage tanks.
• Performs daily greasing and oiling.
• Conducts coal inventory; keeps area around coal hopper clean.
• Assures equipment and work area is clean after each shift.
• Maintains safety as top priority in accordance with all company safety rules and regulations.
