Job description

Main Function

Maintains operations by monitoring and adjusting boiler and auxiliary equipment performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Operate engines, boilers, and auxiliary equipment.
2. Read gauges, meters, and charts to track boiler operations.
3. Monitor boiler water, chemical, and fuel levels.
4. Activate valves to change the amount of water, air, and fuel in boilers.
5. Fire coal furnaces or feed boilers, using gas feeds or oil pumps.
6. Inspect equipment to ensure that it is operating efficiently.
7. Check safety devices routinely.
8. Record data and keep logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activity.
9. Perform routine maintenance on the equipment and systems in a facility.
10. Test boiler water and balance it with chemicals if needed.
11. Watch the system during operation and attend to any additional problems.
12. Record service data in logs.

Working Conditions

On the job, they can be exposed to extreme temperatures, electric shock, and loud noises. Due to the potentially hazardous conditions, they follow strict safety procedures during their work.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma. Minimum of 3 years’ experience or equivalent Second Class or higher license certification. Proficiency maintaining equipment; controls and balancing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; safety; electricity; and air quality.

Pay

$30.31 per hour plus overtime.
