Job description

Primary purpose:
The Boiler Operator works under the direction of the Chief Engineer to support continuous boiler operations through equipment monitoring and boiler water analysis. A thorough understanding of basic chemistry, intermediate mathematics, industrial mechanics, and safe work practices is essential for success in this role.

This position involves periodic inspections of boilers, monitoring operations, and analyzing water samples to ensure safe and efficient boiler functioning.
Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Knowledge of boiler operations
• Monitor pressure, temperature, and draft meters to verify proper operation of automatic combustion control systems, feed water regulators, and burners
• Adjust valves and controls to set fuel feed, draft openings, water levels, and steam pressure
• Detect malfunctions in boilers and auxiliary units, and perform repairs such as burner replacements and pipe fittings tightening
• Adhere to safety rules including Machine Guarding, Lock Out/Tag Out, Hazard Communication, Fork-Lift Safety, PPE, Confined Space Entry, etc.
• Conduct periodic inspections and record data as assigned
• Collect water samples for analysis as scheduled
• Make adjustments to ensure proper operation of equipment
• Maintain accurate logs of activities every two hours
• Assist during boiler shutdowns as directed by the Chief Engineer
• Troubleshoot and repair equipment including PVC piping, pumps, boilers, and air compressors
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment
• Remain on-site until properly relieved
• Maintain good housekeeping practices in the boiler plant
