Job description

Primary purpose:

The Boiler Operator works under the supervision of the Chief Engineer to support continuous boiler operations through equipment monitoring and water analysis. A thorough understanding of basic chemistry, intermediate mathematics, industrial mechanics, and safe work practices is essential for success in this role.

This position involves periodic inspections of boilers, monitoring operations, and analyzing water samples to ensure safe and efficient functioning.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Understand boiler operations and safety protocols
• Monitor pressure, temperature, and draft meters to verify proper operation of automatic combustion control systems, feed water regulators, and burners
• Adjust valves and controls to set fuel feed, draft openings, water level, and steam pressure
• Detect malfunctions in boilers and auxiliary units; perform repairs such as burner changes and tightening pipes and fittings
• Comply with safety rules including Machine Guarding, Lock Out/Tag Out, Hazard Communication, Fork-Lift Safety, PPE, and Confined Space Entry
• Conduct periodic inspections and record data as assigned per shift
• Collect water samples for analysis as scheduled
• Make necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation of equipment
• Maintain accurate and legible logs of activities every two hours
• Assist during boiler shutdowns as directed by the Chief Engineer
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform repairs on PVC piping, pumps, boilers, and air compressors
• Perform preventative maintenance on air compressors, boilers, pumps, and blowers
• Remain on-site until properly relieved and maintain good housekeeping practices in the boiler plant
