Job summary

State of Colorado seeks a Boiler Operator Supervisor at Centennial Correctional Facility in Canon City to supervise inmate boiler workers, maintain and operate boiler systems safely, and ensure security and efficiency of facility utilities.

The role requires strong maintenance experience, adherence to codes, and the ability to train inmates while coordinating with other trades. Excellent communication and integrity are essential for community safety and program success.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of employment experience as a utility plant or boiler operator performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on steam or hydronic hot water boilers and associated pumps, motors, and plumbing and/or installing and repairing boiler systems.
• OR: Four (4) years of employment experience installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC systems which must include hot water boilers or steam boilers above 15 psi.
• OR: Combination of work experience totaling four or more years including plumbing, pipe-fitting and/or HVAC roles; correctional experience may substitute for part of the requirement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and security of facility and work sites; train and guide inmates in proper use of controlled items and equipment; enforce security procedures and monitor inmate behavior.
• Ensure safe, efficient, compliant boiler house operations; conduct regular checks; perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on boiler systems and peripheral equipment.
• Supervise assigned inmate workers; hire, train, schedule, and evaluate inmate staff; manage wages and records; promote a professional, ethical work environment.
• Ensure compliance with boiler codes and budget control; manage tools, parts, and expenses; identify inefficiencies to reduce waste and prevent theft.
• May work extra hours or shifts to maintain security; operate around industrial equipment in loud environments.
