Job summary

Tampa Florida Kenworth is seeking a Body Shop Technician/Mechanic to join our team in Tampa, FL. Prior experience in body repair for medium and heavy‑duty vehicles is preferred.

The role involves sandblasting, priming, diagnosing electrical and drive‑train faults, and performing repairs with accurate repair orders. The ideal candidate should possess a High School Diploma, a technical degree or certificate is a plus, and the ability to obtain a CDL.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required; technical degree or certificate preferred.
• Ability to read shop repair orders and electrical schematics.
• Experience with diagnostic equipment and paint prep is expected.

Responsibilities

• Prepares vehicles for body repair and sandblasting for painting.
• Uses paint gun to prime vehicles and performs corrective maintenance.
• Reads fault descriptions and determines repair procedures.
• Completes repair orders with detailed information for supervisors.
• Coordinates parts with the parts department and performs road tests.

This is a great opportunity to join a growing and successful dealer group!General Responsibilities:Prepares vehicles for body repair workPerforms corrective and preventative maintenance on medium and heavy duty vehiclesTroubleshoots various systems, to include electrical, drive train, HVAC, brake, engine, and suspension, identifies needed repairs and performs corrective actionWrites accurate, clear, and detailed descriptions on repair ordersPrimary Duties:Sandblasting vehicles to prepare them for paintingUsing a paint gun to prime vehicles for paintingUses diagnostic equipment to detect and isolate faults in medium and heavy duty vehicles and interprets test resultsReads written fault description on repair order and determines the most efficient repair procedureCommunicates with and provides Shop Foreman with accurate and detailed repair information for inclusion on the Repair Order.Obtains supervisor permission to complete diagnosed repairs and/or add additional repairs to a repairCommunicates with parts department personnel to obtain or order the parts necessary to repair vehiclesPerforms road test on customer vehicles to assist in problem isolation or to verify repair procedureTracks and charges clocked hours to the proper corresponding Repair Order operationInteracts with customers in a professional and positive mannerAssists other technicians with repair procedures as neededHigh School Diploma required; formal technical degree, certificate or diploma or equivalent work experience is preferredPersonal tool inventory to allow for the completion of job duties and assignmentsEffective written and oral communication skillsAbility to obtain a Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL)Ability to weld is a plus, but not requiredAbility to read and interpret shop repair order forms, repair manuals, electrical schematics and various other technical bulletinsAbility to use computer keyboard and Windows basicsAbility to work in an environment with frequent exposure to outside weather elementsAbility to work in an environment that contains dust from sanding and possible paint fumesAbility to work 8 - 10 hour days, including overtime hours as neededAbility to bend, stoop, crawl, walk and sit on a regular basis with frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds
