Job summary

Amentum in Dearborn, MI is seeking a Body Interior Materials Engineer to support vehicle teams and core engineering, addressing material compatibility and production issues. You will collaborate with Ford engineering, suppliers, and lab staff to resolve durability, weight, and cost goals.

You will contribute to new material approvals and ensure specifications are up-to-date while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in a related Engineering discipline (Materials Eng, Chemical Eng, or Materials Science preferred)
• Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
• Self-motivated and willing to be mentored and trained
• Strong organizational skills and self-drive
• Proficient in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

• Support materials used in Body Interior Components and Assemblies (e.g., Headliner System)
• Assist in resolving material compatibility, warranty, production, and processing issues
• Collaborate with Ford engineering, suppliers, Tier Ones, purchasing, labs, and manufacturing
• Review engineering drawings and update material/performance specs and test methods
• Help initiate lab requests and support R&D projects
• Contribute to cost reduction, weight reduction, and sustainability goals
• Liaise between lab, engineering, and manufacturing for issue resolution

Body Interior Materials Engineer

Customers include not only the world’s major vehicle providers and other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), but also clients from the international motor sports community.

We are hiring a Body Interior Materials Engineer to work in Dearborn, MI.

Job Description

Support the materials engineer with the vehicle teams and core engineering to resolve material compatibility, warranty, production, and processing problems encountered during the life of a part or subsystem. The emphasis is on teamwork with Ford engineering, material suppliers, Tier one's, purchasing, laboratory engineers, other materials engineers and manufacturing plant personnel.

Technical Responsibilities

• Technical support of Materials used in Body Interior Components and Assemblies such as: Headliners System
• Energy Absorbing/NVH Foam
• Interior/Engine Lighting System
• Removable Roof Systems
• Roof Opening Panel System
• All Window Shades
• Support Body Interior Materials by: Attend core functional tech club meetings.
• Reviewing and signing off Engineering Drawings via TeamCenter.
• Updating material/performance specifications, approved source lists & test methods.
• Assisting in the resolution of assembly, manufacturing, durability & field issues. Liaison between the lab and engineering and manufacturing.
• Initiate lab requests as required.
• Supporting Research and Innovation Center in special research projects.
• Supporting the approval and release of new technology materials that lower cost, reduce weight, improve quality or contribute to sustainability targets.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and /or Skill Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in a related Engineering discipline. Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Materials Science preferred. Strong interpersonal skills Open to be mentored, coached, and trained Strong focus and attention to detail Self-motivated and self-driven Strong organizational skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
