Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation in Boise, ID, seeks a Boating Education Training Coordinator to lead statewide boat safety education, design courses, and train instructors, traveling across the Southwest Region. Based at the Headquarters in Boise, you will prepare materials, teach classes, manage the PWC livery program, support RBS grants, and help counties with boater safety programs.

The role reports to the Boating Program Supervisor and requires a valid driver’s license,

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license.
• Experience reviewing and revising instructional course content and materials for at least one course involving classroom or field training.

Join us as a Boating Education Training Coordinator with the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, where you'll be the anchor for boating safety initiatives in the Southwest Region.

As the Boating Education Training Coordinator based in our Headquarters Office in Boise, ID, you will utilize your expertise to meticulously plan, organize, develop, and coordinate our statewide boat safety education program. This pivotal role involves not only implementing instructor training but also regularly traveling throughout the Southwest Region of Idaho to provide essential training sessions to marine law enforcement officers, boat safety instructors, and members of the boating public.

Reporting directly to the Boating Program Supervisor, you will be responsible for a range of duties aimed at bolstering our boating safety program. This includes preparing materials, teaching classes, and spearheading boating safety outreach events. Additionally, you will play a vital role in managing the personal watercraft (PWC) livery program, ensuring the seamless distribution of training materials and documentation to PWC rental companies. Administrative support for Recreational Boating Safety (RBS) grants and data entry into relevant databases will also be part of your responsibilities.

Furthermore, you will be actively involved in assisting counties with boater safety classes, community outreach events, and Marine Law Enforcement trainings, reinforcing our commitment to promoting safe boating practices across the region. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Training and public education programs:

• Identify and assess training needs and establish training objectives and priorities
• Design, develop and modify courses and materials
• Develop curricula to ensure related certifications and select, train and certify training instructors
• Interpret, apply, and recommend laws, policies and procedures related to safety and/or user education
• Write, develop and edit lesson plans, prepare and administer written and proficiency tests, evaluate program effectiveness and make policy recommendations to supervisor
• Teach courses including classroom and field components for internal employees, schools, community education, and other groups
• Collect and analyze statistical data, prepare records and reports, and operate motorized boats and PWCs during training exercises

Public relations/technical assistance:

• Coordinate with program managers and the communication manager to write and disseminate specific recreation information and news releases and may initiate and maintain contact with the media
• Represent the agency as the state’s Boating Safety Education Coordinator with the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA)
• Provide consultation and technical assistance to federal, state and local law enforcement and government officials, user organizations, and private individuals on funding, materials, and instruction necessary to establish specific recreational boating programs
• Respond to inquiries regarding facilities, recreation opportunities, and specific recreation projects and procedures
• Represent the department at meetings, conferences and trade shows
• Coordinate activities with law enforcement personnel, educators and user organizations, groups and agencies
• Make oral presentations on various recreational boating topics
• Participate with user organizations in training activities
• Ensure that the program meets all applicable federal, state and local requirements

This position may involve some overnight travel and weekend work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid driver's license
• Experience reviewing and revising instructional course content and materials. Typically gained by experience reviewing and revising instructional materials for a minimum of one course involving classroom or field training.
• Experience teaching classes in a structured learning situation . Typically gained by at least six months' cumulative teaching experience in a structured environment. This could be in a volunteer or paid capacity.
• Experience interpreting and communicating technical and specialized material into information usable by the public. Typically gained by at least at least one year of work experience interpreting and communicating technical and specialized material into oral presentations or written material for the public, which may encompass social media. This could be as a volunteer or in a paid position.
• Experience researching, analyzing, and compiling information with facts and statistics. Typically gained by at least one year of experience researching, analyzing, and compiling information with facts and statistics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION SPECIALTIES

• Good knowledge of boating safety practices. Typically gained by successful completion of a National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) approved safety course , OR at least two years of work experience closely related to boating safety practices, such as boating safety instructor, marine patrol officer, or similar positions, where the individual has been actively involved in implementing and enforcing boating safety regulations and procedures, OR a combination of the education and experience that represents the knowledge level above.
• Experience operating motorized watercraft. Typically gained by at least six months (cumulative) experience operating a motorized watercraft.
