Job summary

Natives of Kodiak Incorporated is seeking a Boat Captain for a part-time on-call role based in Eastern Washington. The position involves transporting project staff by boat, with weekend and occasional holiday work through September.

The role requires Coast Guard 6 Pack certification, strong navigation skills, and the ability to operate radar, depth finders, radios, and other marine equipment. Candidates must be a US citizen and able to obtain security clearance if required.

Qualifications

• Driver's license and good driving record

Responsibilities

• Steer and operate vessels using radar depth finders radios buoys lights and lighthouses
• Dock and undock sailing vessels in tight spaces such as locks
• Alter navigation plans based on weather conditions to keep vessels, passengers, and cargo safe
• Inspect boats and ships to ensure safe operation and regulatory conformity
• Read gauges and compute positions using charts, compasses, and other navigation tools
• Maintain records of daily activities, ship positions, weather, and cargo status
• Complete project work per client guidelines

Please note This is a part timeon call position that will potentially require weekend and some holiday work The contract runs through September with roughly 3 4 boat days from now until the end of the month Be appreciated for a job well done That is exactly what it is like working for the Natives of Kodiak family of companies Environmental Assessment Services LLC EAS is a nationally known scientific environmental characterization company based in Eastern Washington since 2005 EAS is looking for a Boat Captain to assist with transporting project staff on a boat

Duties

Steer and operate vessels using equipment such as radar depth finders radios buoys lights and lighthousesDock and undock sailing vessels sometimes navigating through tight spaces such as locksAlter navigation plans based on weather conditions to keep vessels passengers and cargo safeInspect boats and ships to ensure efficient and safe operation of vessels and equipment and their conformity to regulationsRead gauges to ensure safe levels of hydraulic fluid and oxygen or air pressureCompute positions set courses and determine speeds using charts compasses sextants area plotting sheets and knowledge of local conditionsSignal crew members and deckhands to perform necessary tasks including rig tow lines open or close ramps and gates and pull guard chains across entriesMaintain all onboard equipment and keep detailed records of daily activities personnel reports ship positions and movements ports of call weather conditions passenger and cargo status and pollution control effortsEnsure specific project work is completed per the guidelines from the clientComplete other work as assigned

Qualifications
