Be appreciated for a job well done. That is exactly what it is like working for the Natives of Kodiak family of companies. Environmental Assessment Services, LLC (EAS) is a nationally known, scientific environmental characterization company based in Eastern Washington since 2005.

EAS is looking for a Boat Captain to assist with transporting project staff on a boat.

Duties:
  • Steer and operate vessels using equipment such as radar, depth finders, radios, buoys, lights and lighthouses.
  • Dock and undock sailing vessels, sometimes navigating through tight spaces, such as locks.
  • Alter navigation plans based on weather conditions to keep vessels, passengers and cargo safe.
  • Inspect boats and ships to ensure efficient and safe operation of vessels and equipment and their conformity to regulations.
  • Read gauges to ensure safe levels of hydraulic fluid and oxygen or air pressure.
  • Compute positions, set courses and determine speeds using charts, compasses, sextants, area plotting sheets and knowledge of local conditions.
  • Signal crew members and deckhands to perform necessary tasks, including rig tow lines, open or close ramps and gates and pull guard chains across entries.
  • Maintain all onboard equipment, and keep detailed records of daily activities, personnel reports, ship positions and movements, ports of call, weather conditions, passenger and cargo status and pollution control efforts.
  • Ensure specific project work is completed per the guidelines from the client.
  • Complete other work as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Valid Coast Guard 6-Pack Certification.
  • Firm knowledge of marine craft communication, signaling and navigation systems.
  • Must bring in personal auto insurance coverage.
  • Must be willing to work holidays and weekends.
  • Ability to perform onsite field work.
  • Must be a US citizen and have the ability to obtain security clearance/badges, if required.
  • Must possess valid US driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment criminal record and driving background checks.
  • Pre-employment drug testing and physical are required, as well as compliance with Corporate Drug-Free Workplace Program.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicle and boats, prepare and analyze data, and work on computers.
  • The employee may be subject to the following based on field work required per the position:
    • Weather, noise, heights, radiation, loud noises, wet, humid, work near mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, vibration e.g.
  • This employee regularly works outside in various weather conditions including extreme heat and extreme cold. The employee frequently works near moving equipment and is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee may be exposed to physical hazards from mechanical and electrical equipment. This position will require some work with ladders. Employee will work around plant life, sage brush, pollen, airborne spores and chemicals associated with grounds work. Employee may come across wildlife that may pose a threat such as snakes, spiders, coyotes, and ticks. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
