The ideal candidate has 3–5+ years in landscaping/restoration, strong leadership, and knowledge of irrigation and native plants. CDL may be preferred; first aid and pesticide certifications are required.

Qualifications

Environmental Assessment Services, LLC (EAS) is an established environmental services firm. Founded in 2005, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Natives of Kodiak since 2015, EAS specializes in environmental planning, ecosystem restoration, environmental site characterization and assessment, compliance and permitting, and natural and cultural resource management, among other disciplines.

Position Summary

EAS is currently seeking a Landscape Leadman to support ecosystem restoration activities at Prado Dam in the Riverside/Anaheim, California area. This is an hourly, non-exempt position anticipated to average approximately 155 hours per month through March 2030.

Working under the direction of the Restoration Ecologist, the Landscape Leadman is a hands‑on field position responsible for performing restoration site maintenance while providing day‑to‑day direction and oversight to the landscaping crew. Work includes weed and invasive species management across approximately 105 acres, operation and maintenance of irrigation systems, remedial planting and seeding of native vegetation, and operation of landscaping and irrigation equipment.

The ideal candidate is an experienced landscape professional who is comfortable working alongside the crew while providing field‑level leadership, training, coordination, and quality oversight.

Essential Functions

  • Perform daily maintenance of ecosystem restoration sites, including weed and invasive species management, remedial planting and seeding, irrigation, and irrigation system maintenance.
  • Provide day‑to‑day direction, training, and work coordination for field crew members under the direction of the Restoration Ecologist.
  • Work alongside crew members to safely and efficiently complete assigned restoration and landscaping activities.
  • Safely operate, inspect, and perform routine maintenance of landscaping equipment, water trailers, pumps, and other field equipment.
  • Monitor assigned work and completed activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality requirements, and established work plans.
  • Reinforce company safety requirements, OSHA regulations, and proper chemical application procedures in the field.
  • Monitor field and weather conditions and communicate potential safety, scheduling, or operational concerns to the Restoration Ecologist.
  • Track crew hours, materials, equipment usage, and daily work activities and provide required information for project reporting.
  • Assist the Restoration Ecologist with coordinating daily work priorities and project schedules.
  • Maintain material and equipment inventories and communicate replenishment or maintenance needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of hands‑on landscaping, restoration, construction, or related field experience.
  • Previous experience providing crew leadership, lead‑worker responsibilities, or field oversight preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred depending on water truck/trailer requirements.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and repeatedly lift 50–80 pounds.
  • Knowledge of horticulture, irrigation systems, and native plant identification, or demonstrated ability to learn.
  • Experience operating landscape water trailers (water buffalo), pumps, irrigation systems, and/or water trucks preferred.
  • First Aid, CPR, and Pesticide Applicator certifications required.
  • Strong communication, organization, field leadership, and problem‑solving skills.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work will generally occur Monday through Friday, with schedules varying based on weather conditions, project requirements, and coordination with project management. This is a field‑based, hourly position, and actual hours may fluctuate based on project needs.

The position requires frequent bending, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting, and working outdoors for extended periods. The employee must be able to repeatedly lift 50–80 pounds and have sufficient visual acuity to safely operate motor vehicles and landscaping equipment.
