Position Overview

Bonneville Sacramento / KHTK is looking to hire an On Call (Fill In) Board Operator to operate the technical side of our broadcast operations. The Board Operator will manage the studio console, ensuring FCC compliant, clean, and timely air‑time for live, pre‑recorded and automated content, and perform ancillary tasks supporting the station’s programming and database compliance.

What You Will Do
  • Operate the studio console during a shift, ensuring a smooth airing of the station’s programming with accurate transmitter and program logs, airing commercials and emergency alerts per schedule, and recording satellite feeds.
  • Maintain the transmitter in FCC‑approved parameters and verify all audio elements are free of technical problems before airing.
  • Update discrepancy reports for any occurrence that departs from program logs or quality goals.
  • Check studio equipment for proper functioning before going on‑air, troubleshoot and report technical problems.
  • Become proficient with the audio console, Adobe Audition, Audacity, and Zetta, and edit and post podcasts.
  • Coordinate the use of music and sound for assigned shows, ensuring proper level mixing.
  • Cross‑train on all board operator shifts and fill in for teammates.
  • Assist talk show producers in creating content for social media and best‑of programming.
  • Screen incoming phone calls and provide general ops support.
Required Skills & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Reliable and dependable with flexibility to work weekdays, overnights, and weekends; able to reach the station within two hours for on‑call shifts.
  • Proven accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, ability to follow direction and adapt to changes.
  • Good professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Experience operating broadcast equipment and basic production skills preferred.
  • Experience in live play‑by‑play sports broadcasting and coordinating remote connections preferred.
  • 1+ year commercial broadcast experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in audio editing (Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, Audacity) preferred.
  • High creativity in using sound, production elements, and show ideas preferred.
Physical Demands

Requires ability to operate equipment for prolonged periods, extended standing or sitting, and manual dexterity.

Compensation

$20.00 — $22.28 per hour, adjusted by education, experience, ability, internal equity, and market data.
