Position Summary
The Board Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and monitoring of process, storage, loading, and unloading systems at an amine-treating facility handling hydrogen sulfide (H₂S). This position uses computerized, electronic, and manual control systems to maintain established operating parameters, product quality, and compliance with safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Essential duties include:
- Continuously monitor control panels, gauges, alarms, trends, and process indicators to regulate pressure, flow, temperature, fluid levels, and other operating variables.
- Adjust process controls to maintain product specifications, operating efficiency, and equipment performance within established parameters.
- Monitor and operate equipment associated with processing, product temperature and flow, storage, loading, and unloading activities.
- Recognize abnormal operating conditions, perform initial troubleshooting, take appropriate action within established procedures, and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Conduct routine operational rounds and equipment inspections and perform minor operator-maintenance tasks within the scope of training and authorization.
- Accurately record operating data, equipment readings, shift activities, alarms, and other required information in logs and electronic systems.
- Issue, monitor, and close safe-work permits after completing the required training and receiving authorization.
- Perform routine startups, shutdowns, equipment transitions, and emergency-response procedures in accordance with approved procedures.
- Comply with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements, environmental permits, company policies, operating procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Properly use all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, safety footwear, respiratory protection, and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), when required.
- Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and supervisory personnel to support safe, reliable, and efficient facility performance.
- Maintain a strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, reliability, product quality, and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to satisfy applicable pre-employment screening requirements, including drug screening and a background check, as permitted by law.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, and callouts based on business needs.
- Ability to safely wear required PPE and respiratory protection, including SCBA, and complete applicable medical evaluation, fit-testing, and training requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Board Operator, Control Room Operator, or in a comparable process-operations role.
- Experience in an amine-treating facility or a similar process-plant environment.
- H₂S awareness training or relevant experience working in an H₂S environment.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods during a 12-hour shift.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and work at varying elevations as required.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials consistent with the essential duties of the position.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather, temperature, noise, and process-plant conditions.
- Ability to work in areas where H₂S or other process hazards may be present while following established monitoring, PPE, and emergency-response requirements.
