Job summary

Chemtrade is seeking a B Operator for the Richmond, California Sulfuric Acid Plant to perform general plant operator duties, including loading/unloading, pumping, piping, valves and routine maintenance. The role requires climbing stairs, PPE, and 12-hour rotating day/night shifts.

You will support Acid and Shift Utility Operators and must read and follow safety rules, operate equipment, and adapt to outdoor conditions and varying temperatures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in an industrial plant environment preferred.
• Must be mechanically inclined and able to work 12-hour days/nights.

Responsibilities

• Perform truck/railcar loading and unloading, and operate pumps, valves and plant equipment.
• Follow all plant safety guidelines including confined space and hot work procedures.
• Operate mobile equipment such as a backhoe and assist other plant personnel as needed.

Compensation: $42.24/hr, non-exempt (fully qualified hourly rate, after training, $52.42/hr)

About This Role and You

Chemical Operators at our Richmond, California Sulfuric Acid Plant require the mechanical ability to safely perform general plant operator duties. Work includes tank truck and railcar vessel opening, loading and unloading, operation of pumps, piping, valves and general plant upkeep and maintenance. They also assist the Acid and Shift Utility Operators or other plant personnel as needed. This job requires climbing stairs and ladders and also lifting (within OSHA guidelines) while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) including full face respirators, when required. This job consists of outside elements where radiant heat or cold is normal work environment, and rotating shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Relevant experience in an industrial plant environment, performing similar duties is preferred.
• Must be mechanically inclined
• Must be able to work scheduled 12-hour days/nights with intermittent 14 - 16 hour days for emergency operations/repairs.
• Ability to use computer effectively, Microsoft programs, maintenance management system, e-mail, etc.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, manufacturer's literature, diagrams or schematics.

Medical Requirement

• Perform typical operations requirements such as truck loading and unloading, railcar loading and unloading, connecting/disconnecting hoses, operating valves, troubleshooting equipment/operational problems and operating plant equipment as needed. Cleaning, sweeping, tool room and warehouse inventory, trash removal, digging, weed spraying, shoveling, fire watch and confined space hole attendance/entrant, other duties assigned by Supervisor.
