Job summary

University of the District of Columbia is seeking a Director of Board Operations to lead governance processes and serve as the President's primary liaison with the Board of Trustees and university leadership.

The role requires strategic oversight of governance operations, document management, and compliance with laws and policies, ensuring transparent decision-making and accountability across university governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible administrative, governance, executive support or leadership experience in higher education, government, public administration, or another complex organization.
• Experience managing complex meetings, executive communications, official records, budgets, high-level projects, and sensitive institutional matters.

Responsibilities

• Direct the administration and coordination of Board of Trustees operations, meetings, agendas, materials, and records to ensure effective governance.
• Serve as primary liaison between the Board of Trustees and University leadership, coordinating timely responses and governance information flow.
• Direct development, review, distribution, and maintenance of official Board governance documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure compliance with bylaws, governance policies, public meeting laws, records management, and legal requirements.
• Coordinate governance administration by tracking actions, directives, approvals, commitments, elections, evaluations, and follow-up items.
• Lead board engagement by coordinating onboarding, orientation, and education for trustees and coordinating events.
• Administer resources supporting Board operations, including budget, expenditures, travel, and professional development.
• Advise and support the President on governance matters with reports, briefings, and strategic guidance.
• Perform other duties to support the Office of the President and the University.
