Job summary

Mantis is seeking a Controls Tech III to install and service Building Automation Systems at data center facilities. The role includes project start-up, commissioning, and routine service with emphasis on BMS/EPMS control systems and field maintenance.

The technician will install components, perform calibrations, and coordinate with subcontractors to ensure projects meet code and contract requirements. Travel up to 75% is expected.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with CAD and construction drawings.
  • Strong understanding of open protocols such as BACnet IP/MSTP and Modbus TCP/RTU.
  • Knowledge of terminating wire to terminal blocks including RS-232, RS-485 and CAT 5/6.
  • Troubleshooting skills and ability to derive solutions.
  • Understand indoor/outdoor electrical infrastructure and higher voltages for controls.

Responsibilities

  • Service of existing BMS and EPMS.
  • Startup of complete BMS/EPMS control systems.
  • Install building control components (controllers, panels, conduit, sensors).
  • Low voltage control panel construction.
  • Coordinate work with installation subcontractors to meet code and contract requirements.
  • Perform point-to-point checkout per procedures.
  • Calibrate software/hardware for proper operation.
  • Assist with project commissioning and documenting results.

As a Controls Tech III on our team, you will be responsible for installing and servicing Building Automation Systems at data center facilities, primarily including project start-up and commissioning with additional involvement in routine/emergency service and preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Service of existing building management systems (BMS) and electrical power management systems (EPMS)
  • Startup of complete BMS and EPMS control systems.
  • Install building control components(controllers, panels, conduit, sensors, etc.)
  • Low voltage control panel building.
  • Work closely with our installation subcontractors and coordinate work with them to ensure projects are completed on time as per code, standards and contract requirements.
  • Perform a point-to-point checkout per standard procedures.
  • Perform software/hardware calibration required for proper equipment and system operation.
  • Perform low voltage cable installation/termination for small projects if needed.
  • Take on project commissioning activities to include daily meetings and documenting results.
Qualifications
  • Familiarity with CAD, construction drawings
  • Strong understanding of open protocols (For Example... BACnet IP/BACnet MSTP/Modbus TCP/Modbus RTU)
  • Knowledge of terminating wire to terminal blocks to include RS-232, RS-485 and CAT 5/6
  • Troubleshooting skills, the ability to understand a problem and work toward reasonable solutions
  • Maintain proper understandings of code requirements for indoor and outdoor electrical infrastructure, and knowledge of handling higher voltage (120, 240, 480V) for controls purposes
  • Has had experience with BMS software, Tridium Niagara is required and understands wire sheet programming and logic.
  • Basic networking, ability to manipulate pc settings to access, set up and commission devices on a network.
  • Ability to visit job construction hard hat areas and climb stairs, climb ladders, maneuver in and around pipework and air ducts and work safely near exposed line voltage and low voltage wiring and terminations.
  • Possess valid state motor vehicle license and possess safe driving record as required by company's insurance carrier.
  • Able to pass State and Federal security screening.
  • Out-of-state travel will be required (estimated to be up to 75%)
  • Understanding of Mechanical and Electrical equipment in a typical Data Center application
  • Ability to own a task from beginning to end. Effectively communicating progress and/or issues about assigned task.
  • Can work both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Must be able to multi-task, it is very probable you will be assigned multiple tasks over multiple customers at any given time.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft suite (Word, Outlook, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint)
