Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced engineer to own BMS hardware/software release, BOM accuracy, cost and timing for global supplier delivery. You will drive DFMEA/DVPR, post-launch quality, and field-issue resolution, coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet program milestones in a high-voltage battery electronics domain.

Responsibilities include managing design changes, prototype launches, supplier qualification, and CSP/APQP/PPAP processes, while leading critical-path planning and risk

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience, including design and release accountability for production electronic hardware through launch.
  • Demonstrated ownership of engineering release and change control for a production product, including bill of material accuracy and cost, investment, or quality targets.
  • Experience with DFMEA, DVPR, control plan, and special characteristics.
  • Experience with post-launch quality resolution, including warranty and field concern investigation.
  • Experience working with suppliers on technical deliverables and production readiness.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally, including to supplier and manufacturing sites.
  • Experience releasing high-voltage battery electronics or safety-related electronic control units.
  • Experience with WERS, AIMS, and field service action processes.
  • Experience with electronic control unit hardware and embedded software release processes.
  • Experience managing a global supply base across multiple time zones.
  • Experience with product safety, functional safety, or cybersecurity process requirements applied to electronic control units.
  • Experience establishing internal engineering ownership of externally developed hardware or software, including documentation and toolchain transfer.
  • Experience owning technical timing plans and critical path for a hardware and software deliverable set.

  • Own piece cost, tooling investment, mass, and packaging commitments; assess and communicate design-change cost impacts.
  • Provide technical input to enclosure design, attachment features, and package sizing.
  • Manage obsolescence, running changes, alternate-source qualification, and end-of-life planning.
  • Define service part strategy, serviceability, marking, labeling, and traceability requirements.
  • Own prototype demand planning and manufacturing launch through ramp, including build events, first article inspection, containment, and end-of-line test capability.
  • Own design FMEA, control plan, special characteristics, supplier Schedule A, DVPR, verification results, and traceability records.
  • Own warranty, reliability, and quality targets; lead warranty investigations, plant returns, and failure analysis.
  • Lead field service actions, including 14D, 5-Why, and recurrence-prevention documentation.
  • Represent the BMS work stream in technical and quality review forums.
  • Author and maintain the BMS technical timing plan aligned to program gates and vehicle milestones.
  • Own the critical path for tooling, test capacity, and long-lead components; drive recovery planning and accelerate risk mitigation.
  • Own gate-readiness assessments, go/no-go recommendations, and technical status, review, and risk-reporting cadence.
  • Own supplier technical delivery against statements of work and committed dates; lead supplier reviews and open-issue closure.
  • Drive supplier APQP, PPAP, change requests, and capacity assessments to completion.
  • Manage deviations and concessions, including technical assessment, cost impact, and disposition.
  • Drive supplier documentation covering design rationale, calibration methodology, diagnostic strategy, toolchains, and test infrastructure.
