Job summary

Yale New Haven Health Services Corp. seeks a Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor to deliver academic and psychomotor EMT instruction within YCEMS and Resuscitation Programs, under the EMS Education Medical Director’s guidance.

The role requires CT EMT/AEMT/Paramedic certification, pre-hospital experience preferred, and expertise in simulation-based training and adult learning principles. Evening/weekend availability may be required, with on-site duties at our EMS education facilities.

Qualifications

• Completion of an EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic training Program.
• Pre-hospital experience preferred.
• Connecticut EMT/AEMT/Paramedic certification/licensure required.
• Demonstrates clinical expertise and ability to design engaging EMT instruction.
• Skilled in simulation-based training, student assessment, and using technology to enhance learning.

Responsibilities

• Establishes a professional rapport with students.
• Collaborates with lead instructor or coordinator to assure appropriate instruction level.
• Coordinates and teaches educational sessions for the BLS level.
• Offers verbal and written feedback to instructors, staff, and students on performance and participation.
• Acts as a role model in clinical practice and EMS system.
• Facilitates and models critical thinking, problem solving and communications skills.
• Maintains knowledge of EMS trends and practices.
• Promotes professional self development.
• Identifies student learning needs and outcome measures.
• Collaborates with lead instructors to meet student needs.
• Supports leadership in customer service standards.
• Reinforces customer service behaviors.
• Maintains knowledge of adult learning principles and leadership.
• Negotiates a personal development plan based on self evaluation.
• Assists with performance improvement plans when needed.
• Assists in maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
