Job summary

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc. in Bridgeville, PA, is seeking a Bloomer Operator to operate and monitor bloomer equipment, process steel products, and uphold safety, quality, and productivity.

This role starts as a Utility position with on-the-job training and opportunities to advance. The schedule is a 4-day, 10-hour workweek with alternating Fridays and Mondays off, and the company offers day-one medical, dental, vision benefits and more.

Qualifications

• Previous manufacturing experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor bloomer equipment to process steel products according to procedures.
• Load, position, and handle steel materials for the process.
• Monitor equipment operation and material movement throughout production.
• Make basic adjustments to equipment and process settings.
• Perform basic math and measurements to support production activities.
• Inspect material and finished product for quality and identify conditions needing attention.
• Communicate equipment, material, or production concerns to appropriate personnel.
• Follow work instructions and safety procedures; maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Participate in 5S and housekeeping activities.
• Safely operate material-handling equipment as trained.
• Collaborate with operators, maintenance, quality, and manufacturing staff.

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc., established in 1994, is headquartered in Bridgeville, PA, with plants in North Jackson, OH, Dunkirk, NY, and Titusville, PA. Universal Stainless produces semi-finished and finished specialty steel long products and plate including stainless steel, tool steel, bearing steel, gear steel, and aircraft quality low alloy steels for use in a variety of industries. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Bloomer Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring bloomer equipment to process steel products according to established procedures and production requirements. The position requires employees to safely handle steel materials, monitor equipment operation, perform basic adjustments, inspect material, and communicate equipment or production concerns.

This position will begin as a Utility role. Employees will receive training and gain experience until they meet the qualifications required to advance into the posted position title.

Employees will have the opportunity to learn and operate manufacturing equipment while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operate and monitor bloomer equipment to process steel products according to established procedures and production requirements
• Load, position, and handle steel materials as required for the manufacturing process
• Monitor equipment operation and material movement throughout the production process
• Make basic adjustments to equipment and process settings as trained and directed
• Perform basic math and measurements to support production activities
• Inspect material and finished product for quality and identify conditions that may require attention
• Communicate equipment, material, or production concerns to the appropriate personnel
• Follow established work instructions, quality requirements, and production procedures
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
• Participate in 5S and housekeeping activities
• Safely operate material-handling equipment as trained and authorized
• Work cooperatively with other operators, maintenance, quality, and manufacturing personnel
• Perform other duties as assigned

SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION

This is a safety-sensitive position in a manufacturing environment. Employees are expected to follow all company rules and procedures, properly use required PPE, and immediately report unsafe conditions or equipment concerns.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Work is performed in a manufacturing environment around industrial equipment, machinery, steel products, and materials
• Employees may work in different manufacturing areas based on operational needs
• Employees may work around moving equipment, heavy materials, and industrial processes
• Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment is required
• Employees must be able to work extended shifts and varying schedules assigned

EXPERIENCE:

• Previous manufacturing experience preferred
• Previous heavy machinery or industrial equipment operation experience preferred
• Experience working in a steel or industrial manufacturing environment preferred

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

• High School diploma or GED is required
• Previous manufacturing experience is preferred but not required
• On-the-job training will be provided
• Additional training will be provided on assigned equipment and manufacturing processes

SCHEDULE:

• Current goal is to operate on a 4-day, 10-hour schedule, with alternating Fridays and Mondays off
• Schedule is subject to operational needs
• Occasional overtime may be required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods
• Must be able to safely work around manufacturing equipment, machinery, and materials
• Must be able to wear required PPE for assigned work areas
