Universal Stainless & Alloy Products Inc. is seeking a Long Product Operator to support manufacturing by operating and monitoring equipment used in producing long steel products. The role begins as a Utility position with on-the-job training to progress as needed.

The position requires basic math, reading measuring tools, and a strong safety mindset. Work involves standing for extended periods in a manufacturing environment with varying shifts and 5S housekeeping expectations.

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc., established in 1994, is headquartered in Bridgeville, PA, with plants in North Jackson, OH, Dunkirk, NY, and Titusville, PA. Universal Stainless produces semi-finished and finished specialty steel long products and plate, including stainless steel, tool steel, bearing steel, gear steel, and aircraft quality low alloy steels for use in a variety of industries. Position Overview

The Long Product Operator is responsible for supporting manufacturing operations by operating and monitoring equipment used in the production of long products. Employees will receive on-the-job training and will be expected to follow established procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.

This position will begin as a Utility role. Employees will receive training and gain experience until they meet the qualifications required to advance into the posted position title.

Basic Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor equipment used in the production and processing of long steel products according to established procedures and production requirements.
• Load, position, and handle steel products and materials throughout the manufacturing process.
• Monitor equipment and material flow to ensure production processes operate safely and efficiently.
• Perform basic adjustments to equipment and process settings as trained and directed.
• Perform basic math and measurements related to production requirements, material dimensions, and processing specifications.
• Inspect material throughout the production process and identify quality concerns or conditions requiring attention.
• Monitor equipment operation and communicate mechanical, material, or production concerns to appropriate personnel.
• Follow established work instructions, quality requirements, and production procedures.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
• Participate in 5S and housekeeping activities.
• Safely operate material-handling equipment as trained and authorized.
• Work cooperatively with other operators, maintenance, quality, and manufacturing personnel.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety-Sensitive Position

THIS IS A SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION. PROPER USE OF ALL REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) IS MANDATORY.

Employees must follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements for their assigned work area.

Employees must be willing and able to comply with all required PPE, safety procedures, and work practices.

• Work is performed in a manufacturing environment around industrial equipment, machinery, steel products, and materials.
• Employees may work in different manufacturing areas based on operational needs.
• Employees may work around moving equipment, heavy materials, and industrial processes.
• Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment is required.
• Employees must be able to work extended shifts and varying schedules as assigned.

Experience

• Previous manufacturing experience preferred.
• Previous heavy machinery or industrial equipment operation experience preferred.
• Experience working in a steel or industrial manufacturing environment preferred.

Education/Training

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Previous manufacturing experience is preferred but not required.
• On-the-job training will be provided.
• Additional training will be provided on assigned equipment and manufacturing processes.

Schedule

• Daylight Shift: 5:00 AM–3:00 PM.
• Night Shift: 10-hour shifts, with a preferred start time of approximately 3:00 PM or a schedule that may end around 1:00 AM.
• Work Schedule: Typically, 5 days per week, with an occasional 6th day.
• Schedule Flexibility: Schedules may vary based on operational needs and may include 8-hour shifts.
• Overtime: Overtime may be required based on operational needs.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods.
• Must be able to safely work around manufacturing equipment, machinery, and materials.
• Must be able to wear required PPE for assigned work areas.
