Job summary

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc., established in 1994, is headquartered in Bridgeville, PA, with plants in North Jackson, OH, Dunkirk, NY, and Titusville, PA. Universal Stainless produces semi-finished and finished specialty steel long products and plate including stainless steel, tool steel, bearing steel, gear steel, and aircraft quality low alloy steels for use in a variety of industries. This position will begin as a Utility role. Employees will receive training and gain experience until they meet the qualifications required to advance into the posted position title.

The Saw Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring saw equipment used in the manufacturing process. The Saw Operator follows established procedures to safely and efficiently process material while meeting production and quality requirements.

Basic Responsibilities:

• Operate and monitor saw equipment used to cut steel products according to established procedures and production requirements.
• Load, position, and secure material for cutting as required.
• Set up and operate saw equipment according to work instructions and training.
• Monitor cutting operations to ensure material is processed accurately and efficiently.
• Perform basic math and measurements to determine cutting requirements and verify material dimensions.
• Inspect material before and after processing for quality and accuracy.
• Monitor saw blades, equipment condition, and cutting performance and communicate concerns to appropriate personnel.
• Safely handle steel products and materials throughout the production process.
• Follow established work instructions, quality requirements, and production procedures.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
• Participate in 5S and housekeeping activities.
• Safely operate material-handling equipment as trained and authorized.
• Work cooperatively with other operators, maintenance, quality, and manufacturing personnel.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety-Sensitive Position

THIS IS A SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION. PROPER USE OF ALL REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) IS MANDATORY.

Employees must follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements for their assigned work area.

Employees must be willing and able to comply with all required PPE, safety procedures, and work practices.

• Work is performed in a manufacturing environment around industrial equipment, machinery, steel products, and materials.
• Employees may work in different manufacturing areas based on operational needs.
• Employees may work around moving equipment, heavy materials, and industrial processes.
• Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment is required.
• Employees must be able to work extended shifts and varying schedules assigned.

Experience:

• Previous manufacturing experience preferred.
• Previous heavy machinery or industrial equipment operation experience preferred.
• Experience working in a steel or industrial manufacturing environment preferred.

Education/Training:

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Previous manufacturing experience is preferred but not required.
• On-the-job training will be provided.
• Additional training will be provided on assigned equipment and manufacturing processes.

Schedule:

• 6:00 AM–6:00 PM and 6:00 PM–6:00 AM shifts.
• Current schedules are rotating.
• Currently working 6 days per week.
• Overtime may be required based on operational needs.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods.
• Must be able to safely work around manufacturing equipment, machinery, and materials.
• Must be able to wear required PPE for assigned work areas.
