ARUP Laboratories, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, seeks a Component Specialist Trainee to join Blood Services. You will perform manufacturing and processing of blood products, data handling in LIS, and quality control under supervision.

Essential duties include labeling, packing, shipping, testing, and compliance with CAP/FDA inspections. A High School Diploma is required; competency must be demonstrated within six months. Preferred: one year of related experience.

Qualifikationen

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Competency must be documented within six months of hire.
• Preferred: one year of experience processing blood components or in a clinical lab.

Aufgaben

• Performs quality control and assists with equipment maintenance.
• Processes whole blood into leukocyte reduced red blood cells and plasma.
• Determines platelets qualification and division.
• Enters data into the LIS.
• Prepares blood products for Quality Control testing.
• Filters blood for WBC removal.
• Responds to temperature alarms and documents corrective action.
• Answers phone calls and refers problems to a supervisor.
• Maintains and cleans work areas and stocks supplies.
• Inspects, packs and ships products and samples.
• Samples apheresis platelet units for bacterial detection.
• Performs residual WBC counts on platelets.
• Disposes of nonconforming components.
• Validates instruments and equipment.
• Labels blood products and resolves labeling issues.
• Documents donor post-donation communications.
• Complies with safety and biohazard regulations.
• Attends meetings and completes mandatory training.
• Participates in CAP and FDA inspections.
