Job summary

Baystate Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist for the Blood Bank at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. This 36-hour part-time night position supports transfusion services with ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening, and compatibility testing to ensure safe blood products for patients.

The MLS will work closely with physicians and nurses, performing specialized immunohematology testing, preparing blood products, and investigating transfusion reactions to deliver high-quality patient care

Qualifications

• Associates degree required; ASCP certification preferred.
• Blood bank immunohematology experience is preferred.
• Ability to perform ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening and compatibility testing.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex immunohematology testing including ABO/Rh typing and antibody screens.
• Prepares and issues blood products and conducts compatibility testing.
• Investigates transfusion reactions and provides transfusion support.
• Collaborates with physicians and nurses to ensure safe patient care.
