Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Blood Bank laboratory technologist who can work independently to perform and interpret immunohematology tests to provide compatible blood for transfusion. The shift schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays with rotating on-call duties.

Responsibilities include complex testing, equipment maintenance, and hands-on guidance to junior staff while ensuring compliance with quality and safety policies.

Qualifications

• Academic and professional prerequisites to perform high-complexity transfusion testing and interpret immunohematology results.
• Licensure and certification requirements as applicable (MT/MLS ASCP).
• Alternative pathways include related science degrees with experience in Blood Bank.

Responsibilities

• Follow Blood Bank protocols and perform complex tests.
• Provide guidance to junior staff in test results interpretation.
• Correlate test results with patient history to determine transfusion actions.
• Perform moderate to high complexity testing.
• Maintain equipment and calibration during shifts.
• Ensure inventory and records management per quality policies.

Education

Baccalaureate degree with ASCP MT/MLS certification

Bachelor's degree in Science with 3+ years Blood Bank experience

Associate Degree of Medical Laboratory Technology with MLT(ASCP)
