Job summary

Phoenix Children's Hospital is seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist or BB technologist to lead the Blood Bank section. The role involves implementing new assays, reviewing policies, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance, and inventory management within a major pediatric system.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's in medical laboratory science, ASCP BB or equivalent, 4+ years of Blood Bank experience, and a track record in equipment and software updates and QA

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or related field.
• MLS or BB ASCP Certification or equivalent; Specialist in Blood Bank (SBB) or eligible to obtain within one year preferred.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience performing blood bank testing in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Experience with new equipment/assay implementation, blood bank software updates, and quality assurance activities, including lab inspections and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains policies and guidelines; employs policies and procedures, regulatory guidelines, and professional standards to validate current practice requirements and support overall organizational values and mission.
• Ensures adherence to departmental operating and capital budgets.
• Maintains professional and technical competency in all aspects of laboratory technology through continuous knowledge updating and awareness of latest technology and practices.
• Participates in hospital and department operational and quality improvement initiatives; evaluates systems and implements changes to improve operations; participates in organizational committees.
