Job summary

Ottawa Area ISD is seeking a collaborative Teacher Consultant for the Blind/Low Vision to join the Low Incidence Services Team in Zeeland, MI. The TC-BLV will support students from birth through age 26 across OAISD districts, combining expertise with coaching and capacity building for educators.

The role emphasizes collaboration with families, teachers, and related service providers to increase access, independence and educational success, while maintaining confidential documentation and ongoing

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related special education field.
• Michigan certification or eligibility to provide services to students who are blind or have low vision.
• Knowledge of blindness/low vision implications, Expanded Core Curriculum and assistive tech.
• Proficiency in Unified English Braille or ability to develop it.
• Strong communication, collaboration, consultation, coaching, problem-solving and time management.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families and school staff.

Responsibilities

• Conduct specialized assessments related to functional vision, learning media and assistive technology.
• Collaborate with IEP teams to identify needs and plan services and accommodations.
• Provide consultation, coaching and professional development to educators and staff.
• Build school team capacity to deliver accessible instruction and materials.
• Provide B/LV-specific instruction when needed and support shared-delivery approaches.
• Support Expanded Core Curriculum areas and selection of accessible materials and tools.
• Coordinate with Orientation & Mobility specialists to ensure comprehensive support.
• Maintain confidential documentation and communicate with stakeholders; monitor progress.
