Job summary

School Social Work Association of America in Indianapolis, IN seeks a Blind Low Vision Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Onsite, 40 hours/week, start 08/06/2026, end 05/27/2027, aligned with the school calendar to provide specialized instruction for students who are blind or visually impaired.

Responsibilities include Braille literacy, tactile graphics, Nemeth Code math, assistive technology training, and collaboration with teams to create accessible classrooms and effective IEPs.

Qualifications

• Valid teaching certification or licensure for visually impaired education.
• Proven experience working with students who have visual impairments.
• Knowledge of assistive technology, Braille, and tactile instructional methods.
• Ability to develop individualized education plans according to patient needs.
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with teams, families, and specialists.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver tailored instructional plans focusing on Braille literacy, tactile graphics, and math via Nemeth Code.
• Incorporate adaptive tools and assistive technology training to enhance learning engagement.
• Teach daily living, organization, and self-advocacy skills to promote independence.
• Collaborate with other professionals to modify classroom environments and materials for accessibility.
• Participate actively in IEP meetings, advocating for student needs and progress.
