The State of South Carolina seeks a Grounds Maintenance Specialist for McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Columbia to maintain grassed areas, shrub beds, parking lots and fencing with safe operation of equipment. You will perform mowing, edging, pruning, and routine upkeep under minimal supervision while following safety procedures.
Responsibilities include preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, keeping logs, ordering supplies, and supporting repairs as requested by supervision.
Position at McEntire Joint National Guard Base is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of landscape and grounds, maintenance of equipment and related grounds equipment for McEntire Roads and Grounds Complex. Conducts quality work with minimum supervision with proper safety procedures and equipment.
Mowing, edging and maintenance of grassed area. Maintenance of shrub beds. Pruning, clipping and trimming of trees and shrubs. Maintain parking lots and fence lines. Maintain operating skills.
Operate equipment safely and efficiently while maintaining existing areas. Practice proper safety practices while using equipment. Operate heavy equipment to include loaders, agricultural tractors, lawn mowers, chain saws, man-lifts, RTV, and Gator. Complete repairs timely and completely. Maintain and repair agricultural type equipment, grounds keeping implements and grass cutting equipment. This will include changing oils and fluids, removal, changing and sharpening of blades on mowing equipment.
Conducts preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Maintain documentation and logs. Order supplies and materials as needed. Initiates preventative maintenance; recommends improvements. Assist with maintenance repairs when deemed necessary as requested by supervisor.
A high school diploma and custodial or grounds keeping experience directly related to the area of employment.
Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s license.
Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and stand for long periods.
Must be able to climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to work in confined spaces; hot, hazardous, and noisy locations.
