Qualifications

This job can be described as:

Performs regular cleaning of parts, surface preparation, and coating application duties for repair jobs. This role will be responsible for the safe operation of all related equipment and is expected to maintain a clean and safe working environment. Will also aid in other shop tasks when called upon.

Job Model: On-Site

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

A typical day at work would include:

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by sandblasting to remove rust, paint, and debris.
  • Operate sandblasting and painting equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Apply primers, paints, and protective coatings to equipment and parts.
  • Ensure even and high-quality paint finishes using spray guns or brushes.
  • Inspect surfaces before and after painting to meet quality standards in strict adherence to specifications.
  • Maintain and clean sandblasting and painting equipment regularly.
  • Follow safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and ventilation systems.
  • Handle and dispose of paint, chemicals, and blasting media according to regulations.
  • Assist with masking, taping, and protecting areas not to be painted.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized.

Experience you need coming into this job:

  • 1 year experience preferred.
  • AMPP Certifications highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with AMPP Metal Surface Preparation standards and basic coatings inspection procedures.
  • Must have a valid driver's license in order to operate company vehicle.
  • Works under direct supervision. Ability to ask for direction from Supervisor when more complex decision-making is required.
  • Ability to make basic decisions corresponding with written procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to work in an uncomfortable environment, i.e., extreme varying temperatures and loud noise.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written/verbal instructions and/or procedures in the English Language or willingness to learn English.
  • Ability to wear a respirator, as required.
  • Ability to understand chemical relationships in cleaning solutions and solvents.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to drive a fork truck desirable.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to sit, talk or hear. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and lift heavier weights with human or mechanical assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision. Hazardous materials, high levels of heat and noise exist in the daily work environment.

Targeted pay range: $20.00/hr. - $21.50/hr.

Chesterton is committed to paying all its employees in a fair and equitable manner. The pay range associated with this position ($20.00/hr. - $21.50/hr. DOE) is Chesterton's good-faith salary estimate for the presently available position. Several roles at Chesterton are considered “leveled” positions and as such, the company reserves the right to advertise and or hire for this position at appropriate level depending on applicant’s skillset/experience. If the salary range to be offered for a “leveled” based position (I, II, III, etc.) is different than what was advertised on any posting, that range will be discussed with the candidate before they are formally invited to interview.

Hired applicants may be eligible for additional incentive compensation depending on the level and or function of the position which will be discussed with the candidate prior to formal interview. Payments under these programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

Please note that the final salary offered for any position will be based on many factors, including but not limited to: candidate qualifications such as education and experience, internal equity, geographical location, and budget.
