Blaster/Mechanical Cleaning Technician (Construction)

Job Overview

Performs blasting/mechanical cleaning and chemical pre-cleaning prior to blasting to ensure high-quality, clean surfaces for our internal and external customers. Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area. Reports to the Department Supervisor & Plant Manager.

Responsibilities
  1. Shovels or pours abrasive media of specified grade into the machine hopper.
  2. Loads parts into cabinets or tumbling barrels.
  3. Regulates pressure and composition of abrasive mixture through valves.
  4. Starts equipment to direct blast or flow of abrasive laden compressed air over parts.
  5. Manipulates small parts under nozzle or inserts arms through glove-fitted cabinet openings for specified intervals.
  6. Performs visual in-process inspection.
  7. Verifies part counts before and after processing.
  8. Examines finished parts for conformance to specifications.
  9. Properly packages completed customer parts when required.
  10. Understands equipment, blasting media, air pressures, and their effects on substrates.
  11. Handles materials safely, including solvents and media.
  12. Maintains records related to the process.
  13. Works in chemical environments with appropriate PPE, including respirator use, training, fit testing, and medical evaluations.
  14. Lifts 10-30 lbs repeatedly without assistance.
  15. Works overtime as needed.
  16. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic math skills for counting quantities.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing responsibilities.
  • Reading comprehension skills.
Physical Requirements

Must remain stationary 70% of the time, frequently move parts/equipment up to 50 lbs., and have visual acuity for reading and inspecting parts. Annual color and near-vision eye examinations are required to meet vision standards.

Travel

Local and occasional overnight travel may be required.
