Job summary

Volvo Group in North Carolina is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support BIW processes on the shop floor, drive continuous improvement, and ensure safe, high-quality production.

You will lead improvement activities, collaborate with operators and cross-functional teams, apply new technologies, and develop cost‑effective solutions that adapt to changing volumes while upholding built‑in quality and lean principles.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a similar field (automotive or BIW experience is a plus, but not required).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, including risk identification and mitigation, both individually and in teams.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Support and improve BIW manufacturing processes, techniques, equipment, gauging, IT systems, and tooling to reduce defects and improve quality.
  • Spend time on the shop floor to confirm tooling and fixtures perform to quality and safety standards; follow up on issues.
  • Learn and apply new technologies and systems to improve assembly line performance.
  • Develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions that can adapt to product and volume changes.
  • Participate in and support project planning, including pre-studies and feasibility checks, volume/capacity assessments, and follow-up with stakeholders.
  • Use benchmarking and best practices from inside and outside the organization to improve processes.
