Job summary

Illinois Department of Transportation in Peoria seeks a Bituminous Mixtures Area Quality Assurance Technician to assure that materials and procedures used to produce bituminous mixtures meet contract documents. This role also operates and maintains remote labs and provides inspection and certification on industry labs.

The position requires either two years of college plus five years of engineering experience or seven years of engineering experience, plus HMA and PCC QC/QA Level II courses.

Qualifications

• Two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or a related curriculum, plus five years of engineering experience; OR seven years of engineering experience.
• Completion of HMA and PCC QC/QA Level II Courses.

Responsibilities

• Ensures that all materials tested, inspected, and shipped to state projects comply with applicable specifications.
• Responsible for the accurate and timely distribution of inspection reports and for data entry for materials shipped.
• Maintains professional relationships with all producers, suppliers, local and county officials, and others involved in the production and use of materials.
• Provides advice and assistance to producers and suppliers upon request.
• Performs nuclear density tests on bases, shoulders, and pavements, earthwork, and aggregate base course.
• Performs and supervises Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) quality assurance testing.
• Maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment.
• Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
