At Courtyard by Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront/North 37th Street, we are looking for a Bistro Attendant to join our food and beverage team!

Overview

The Restaurant Server will take food and beverage orders, retrieve and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and food orders to guest tables according to hotel specifications, courteously and efficiently. He/she will collect payments and assist in maintaining the restaurant area and equipment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Check with customers to ensure they are enjoying their meals and address any issues.
  • Collect payments from customers.
  • Write patrons' food orders on slips, memorize, or enter them into computers for the kitchen.
  • Prepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and taxes.
  • Take orders from patrons for food or beverages.
  • Check patrons' IDs to verify age for alcohol service.
  • Serve food or drinks, and prepare or serve specialty dishes as required.
  • Present menus and answer questions, making recommendations.
  • Clean tables after guests finish dining.
  • Prepare and serve drinks, including wine chilling.
  • Set up food stations and dining areas for shifts or large parties.
  • Inform customers of daily specials.
  • Stock supplies in service areas.
  • Explain menu items, ingredients, and cooking methods.
  • Set tables with linens, silverware, and glassware.
  • Clear dishes and glasses from tables to the kitchen.
  • Assist hosts by answering phones, taking reservations, greeting, seating, and thanking guests.
  • Perform cleaning duties in the restaurant and surrounding areas.
  • Serve wine with appropriate glasses and pour wine for customers.
  • Assist in food prep, such as salads, desserts, and coffee.
  • Escort customers to tables and garnish dishes.
  • Refill condiments and napkins.
  • Recommend wines and provide local area information.
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Good English skills and guest relations experience.
  • Preferred: certification in liquor, wine, and food service.
  • Must be TIPS, CARE, or equivalent certified by first day.
  • Ability to use property management and POS systems.
