Job summary

Sarmal, Inc. is seeking a Procurement Specialist in San Diego to own purchasing end-to-end and serve as the primary liaison between R&D, operations, and vendors. You will source quotes, negotiate terms, place orders, and ensure reagents, consumables, and equipment arrive on time.

The role also covers receiving, inventory, and developing scalable purchasing processes as the company grows. Ideal candidates have 3+ years in purchasing or procurement within biotech or lab environments, strong Excel

Qualifications

• 3+ years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience, including in biotech or lab environments.
• Experience with laboratory consumables, reagents, and scientific distributors (Avantor/VWR, Thermo Fisher, MilliporeSigma, Bio-Rad, IDT).
• Ability to issue and track purchase orders and manage vendor relationships independently.
• Strong negotiation skills and ability to balance persistence with relationship maintenance.
• Proficiency with Excel and adaptability to ERP systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the full requisition-to-order cycle: intake requests, obtain quotes, issue PO, and process requisitions within one business day.
• Source pricing, run RFQs, and negotiate terms, lead times, and discounts.
• Track orders, expedite backorders, and manage deliveries to avoid bench delays.
• Coordinate PO-to-invoice matching with Finance and maintain purchasing records for spend reporting.
• Assist with capital equipment purchases, service contracts, and delivery/installation coordination.
• Identify cost savings through consolidation and alternative sourcing.
