Job summary

Cal State East Bay invites applications for a Green Biome Institute Laboratory Coordinator. The role focuses on hands-on biotech lab work, sequencing, scheduling, budgeting, and representing the Institute to partners. The candidate will oversee lab activities and ensure data quality.

Ideal applicants have experience in sequencing workflows, data analysis, and mentoring student researchers, with a commitment to safety and collaborative work with faculty.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform biological research safely.
• Knowledge of DNA/RNA isolation techniques.
• Experience with sequencing equipment and software.
• Budget awareness and basic accounting.

Responsibilities

• Obtain plant samples from botanical gardens or the wild as directed.
• Isolate DNA/RNA and construct sequencing libraries.
• Sequence samples using MiSeq, Ion Torrent and Oxford Nanopore.
• Assemble and annotate genomic sequence data.
• Analyze epigenetic, RNA and microbiome data with software.
• Train student researchers in procedures.
• Maintain safe lab practices and waste disposal.
