Job summary

Cal State East Bay invites applications for a Green Biome Institute Laboratory Coordinator. The role focuses on hands-on biotech lab work, sequencing, scheduling, budgeting, and external collaboration with partner institutions, academic centers, companies, and conservation centers.

The position requires knowledge of DNA/RNA isolation, sequencing technologies, and strong communication skills. The incumbent will supervise a small team, manage instrument use, and contribute to data deposition in

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of research techniques and study planning, data sources, and reporting.
• General knowledge of statistical principles and procedures for data analysis.
• Ability to prepare questionnaires and survey instruments.
• Ability to gather, compile, analyze data, and present results in tabular/graphic form.
• Capacity to plan, organize and supervise a small team.

Responsibilities

• Obtain plant samples from botanical gardens and the wild as directed by faculty.
• Isolate DNA and RNA and construct sequencing libraries per protocols.
• Sequence samples using MiSeq, Ion Torrent, and Oxford Nanopore technologies with existing instrumentation.
• Assemble and annotate genomic sequence data using existing software.
• Analyze epigenetic, RNA and microbiome sequence data with existing tools and faculty consultation.
• Train and direct student research assistants as needed.
• Maintain safe laboratory procedures, conduct inventory, and dispose of hazardous waste.
