Job summary

Stanford University’s Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) seeks a Biosafety Specialist II to oversee all work with biohazardous materials, recombinant DNA and biohazards on campus, ensuring compliance with Cal OSHA, NIH Guidelines and institutional policies.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, you will review gene transfer trials, support other laboratory safety programs, train researchers, and promote a culture of safety among faculty, staff, and students.

Qualifications

• M.A/Ph.D. in Life Sciences (Microbiology, Immunology, Genetics, Molecular Biology) or related field.
• 3+ years laboratory experience in a BSL-2 or higher containment.
• Experience with human clinical research

Responsibilities

• Review clinical gene transfer trials using recombinant nucleic acids or infectious agents for the Administrative Panel on Biosafety.
• Proactively minimize risk related to non-compliance with regulations and policies governing biosafety.
• Collaborate with the Biosafety team to promote safety of faculty, staff and students across the university.
