Job summary

Stanford University’s EH&S department is seeking a Research Safety Specialist for a one-year fixed term to serve as a liaison to researchers in laboratories, developing and maintaining safety programs to enable safe research design and performance.

You will work with the Lab Safety team to address laboratory chemical safety, industrial hygiene, risk assessment, high hazard registration, and PPE, while training and assisting researchers in compliance and best practices.

Qualifications

• Experience in research safety and industrial hygiene.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar credentials.
• Familiarity with guidelines, standards, and other regulatory documents applicable to health and safety.
• Scientific background to enable discussions with researchers in multiple disciplines.
• Willingness to participate in an iterative design process with feedback for process improvement.
• Team-first approach and collaborative mindset when working with researchers and staff.

Responsibilities

• Serve as EH&S liaison to researchers in laboratories.
• Develop and help implement research safety programs to enable safe research practices.
• Address laboratory chemical safety, industrial hygiene, risk assessment, high hazard registration, and PPE needs.
• Provide training and compliance assistance to research teams.
• Collaborate with the Lab Safety team to promote health and safety performance.
