Job summary

Stanford University’s Department of Environmental Health and Safety seeks a Biosafety Specialist II to join the Biosafety & Biosecurity team. The role ensures safe use of biohazardous materials, reviews gene transfer trials for biosafety panels, and communicates with the IRB as needed.

You will provide technical guidance on NIH/Cal OSHA guidelines and support campus-wide biosafety initiatives. Preferred candidates hold a MA/PhD in Life Sciences with at least three years in a BSL-2+ laboratory

Qualifications

M.A./Ph.D. in Life Sciences (Microbiology, Immunology, Genetics, Molecular Biology) or related field.
Three years of research laboratory experience in a BSL-2 or higher containment.
Experience with human clinical research and familiarity with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and maintain biosafety programs for campus laboratories and facilities.
Review gene transfer trials using recombinant nucleic acids or infectious agents for Administrative Panel on Biosafety readiness.
Provide guidance on government regulations and university policies related to biosafety and health.
Deliver training and raise awareness on environmental, health, and safety activities.
