Job summary

AeroVironment Inc. in Dayton, Ohio is seeking a Fermentation Laboratory Technician to join the Biological & Nano Scale Team. The role supports biomanufacturing activities, process development, and operation of fermentation systems in a controlled laboratory setting.

The successful candidate will prepare media, monitor processes, document results, and perform aseptic work. Regular hours with some evenings/weekends may apply, and travel between facilities could occur.

Qualifications

• Ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions, technical procedures, and established protocols.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to document activities and explain technical information clearly.
• Ability to execute assigned tasks independently according to established processes and protocols.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and unit conversions.
• Ability to follow laboratory safety requirements and procedures for handling biological and chemical materials.
• Ability to solve problems in atypical or infrequent situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide general laboratory support, including housekeeping, organization, and maintaining a clean work environment.
• Maintain and operate fermenters and related systems in line with processes and safety requirements.
• Prepare solutions and media using established protocols, ensuring accuracy and documentation.
• Operate laboratory analyzers and instrumentation and document results.
• Perform aseptic operations involving BSL-1 organisms following procedures.
• Document laboratory operations, equipment use, and observations in established records.
• Execute laboratory and biomanufacturing tasks independently using validated processes.
• Operate high-energy equipment following protocols and safety requirements.
• Adhere to health, safety and site procedures.
