Job summary

IFF in Madison, Wisconsin, is seeking an engineer to drive operational excellence in biotech and fermentation processes at a global manufacturing site. This on-site role supports manufacturing operations, process optimization, and technology transfer across sites including Europe and the U.S.

You will work with experienced engineers to scale new technologies, execute experiments, and deliver projects that contribute to business growth and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Internship or co-op experience in manufacturing, preferably biotech/fermentation.
• Understanding of fermentation and downstream processing technologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to interpret data.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Support and improve manufacturing operations by identifying and resolving process, safety, and efficiency issues.
• Participate in Process Safety Management (PSM) activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Monitor process performance and analyze trends to optimize reliability, quality, and productivity.
• Design, execute, and evaluate experiments to improve process performance.
• Support introduction and industrialization of new products and technologies.
• Contribute to capital investment projects as part of Manufacturing Technology team.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including batch records and SOPs.
• Evaluate process costs, material utilization, and efficiency to inform decisions.
