Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine in Richmond is seeking a motivated Laboratory Research Technician to support ongoing projects investigating novel therapeutics and disease-related biology.

This part-time role (~29 hours/week) trains you across multistep organic synthesis, mammalian cell culture, biochemical assays, and in vivo studies with mice, to advance research in cancer and pain management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or a related field.
  • Interest in biomedical research and willingness to learn new laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal experimental procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records.
  • Basic computer skills for word processing, spreadsheets, and data organization.
  • Ability to work independently after appropriate training as well as collaboratively as part of a research team.
  • Strong communication, professionalism, and civility toward diverse colleagues.
  • Commitment to respectful and professional conduct in a lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation and execution of laboratory experiments under the direction of the Principal Investigator and senior laboratory members.
  • Perform routine mammalian cell culture and related cellular/biochemical experiments.
  • Assist with in vivo studies involving mice after required training.
  • Assist with chemical synthesis and related lab procedures as needed.
  • Prepare buffers, solutions, reagents, and materials for experiments.
  • Maintain accurate lab records and document procedures/results.
  • Maintain lab supplies and equipment; monitor inventory and assist with ordering.
  • Participate in research meetings and communicate progress to the Principal Investigator and team.
  • Perform other research-related duties to support ongoing projects.
