Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond is seeking a Lab/Research Technician (Hourly) to support pharmacology and toxicology studies. You will manage mouse colonies, administer drugs, and perform behavioral assays using mouse models.

The ideal candidate will hold an undergraduate degree in a related field, demonstrate strong communication, and work independently. This onsite role offers 6–8 hours per week, with potential weekend work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; undergraduate degree in a related field required.
• Strong communication skills and ability to conduct independent experiments.
• Experience with mouse colony management and rodent handling preferred.
• Ability to follow lab protocols and maintain accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Manage mouse colonies and handle mice; administer intraperitoneal and subcutaneous drugs.
• Conduct behavioral assays (place conditioning, Y-maze, tail-withdrawal, hot-plate, locomotor) using mouse models.
• Document results thoroughly and prepare data for reports; coordinate experiment requests.
• Maintain lab cleanliness, monitor stock, and assist with ordering; weekend work may be required.
