Job summary

Alaska Gateway School District is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to support the Tok School Biomass and perform district-wide maintenance duties. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining the Biomass Steam boiler, general facility maintenance, and performing grounds work.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, vocational training, and capability to work under demanding conditions. The position requires an AK driver’s license and offers a competitive salary starting at $24.34 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Experience with commercial facilities maintenance is preferred.

Job description

Position Summary

Alaska Gateway School District is accepting applications for a full‑time Maintenance Technician to be based at the Tok School Biomass and to work district‑wide as needed. Duties may be rotated between Districtwide Maintenance and Biomass Operations. Salary starts at Level 8 ($24.34) or 9 ($25.02) DOE, and includes paid leave, retirement, and healthcare. The position requires travel within and out of the district, willingness to be on‑call, and to work additional hours as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operation and maintenance of Tok Biomass Steam boiler (training provided).
  • General maintenance, including work on water and sewer lines, basic plumbing, heating and ventilation systems, electrical repairs, lock‑smithing functions, and maintenance of facility mechanical equipment according to the preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Carpentry work in renovations, alterations, and maintenance of buildings, floors, partitions, doors, windows, and installation/repair of cabinets and furniture.
  • Grounds work, including snowplowing, ice removal, brush cutting, etc.
  • Miscellaneous duties such as shipping and receiving; moving equipment, books, and classroom furniture; assisting staff or administrators as directed.
  • Maintain records and prepare required work reports using email and computer management systems.
  • Participate in any and all required training.
  • Perform other related tasks, including welding, fabrication, roofing, painting, and operation/repair of heavy and light equipment.
  • Be available on‑call 24/7 as needed (mainly Oct.–April), with a cell phone stipend provided.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school graduate or equivalent, including vocational or military experience.
  • Successful completion of vocational technical school, apprenticeship program, or two years’ work experience in one or more of the building trades is preferred.
  • Physical strength, stamina, and agility to allow for heavy physical labor in all weather conditions.
  • Self‑motivated with a positive, customer‑service and team‑oriented attitude.
  • Valid AK driver’s license, clean driving record, and proof of insurance.
  • Experience with commercial facilities maintenance preferred.
  • Ability to problem‑solve creatively and communicate oral and written instructions efficiently.
