Job summary

The University of West Alabama invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Biology in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. The successful candidate will teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise student research, and participate in online teaching as needed. Applicants should have a Ph.D.

in Biology or a related field, with ABD considered. Experience with grant writing, online courses, and recruiting students is preferred.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Biology or related field; ABD candidates may be considered.
Commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
Ability to direct undergraduate and graduate research.
Demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding.
Postdoctoral experience in modern and emerging technologies.
Experience with online courses.
Experience in recruiting students to our programs.
Ability to work with diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Teach introductory, upper-level undergraduate, and graduate courses as needed based on departmental needs and applicants’ expertise.
Teach online courses based on departmental needs and applicants’ expertise.
Direct undergraduate and graduate research.
Serve on departmental and university committees.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Chairperson and Dean.
Fulfill other duties expected of a faculty member, such as student advising and recruitment.
