The University of North Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Biology beginning August 2027. The successful candidate will primarily teach majors and non-majors introductory biology courses and upper-level courses in their specialization.

Scholarly activity, undergraduate mentoring, and advising are required for tenure progression. PhD in biology or closely related field is required; ABD candidates considered if degree is conferred

Qualifications

  • PhD in biology or closely related discipline required (ABD considered if degree conferral before start).
  • Experience teaching undergraduate biology preferred.
  • Evidence of mentoring undergraduate researchers and scholarly activity.
  • Official transcripts required; upload/submit as part of application.

Responsibilities

  • Teach introductory biology lectures and laboratories for majors and non-majors.
  • Deliver upper-level coursework in candidate’s specialization (ornithology, entomology, mammalogy, herpetology, mycology).
  • Develop and maintain an active research agenda; mentor undergraduates and advise biology majors.
  • Engage in service to the department, college, and university; participate in scholarship for tenure and promotion.
